Generative Engine Optimization

Your customers increasingly ask an AI before they search. We work on making sure that when they ask about your category, your name is in the answer.

A few years ago the buying journey started with a search: ten blue links, and you competed for a place among them. Today it increasingly starts with a question to an AI — "recommend a fulfillment automation partner," "what does it cost to integrate Shopify with Amazon," "who builds AI agents for e-commerce."

And the AI answers. It names a few companies, explains how they differ, sometimes links straight out. The customer doesn't see ten options — they see three. Everyone else simply doesn't exist in that conversation.

Generative Engine Optimization is the work of being one of the three. Not through advertising — there isn't any — but through how your material is structured and what the sources these systems read say about you.

How this differs from SEO

Four differences
  • There are no rankings. There's no "third place" — there's an answer that either includes you or doesn't. The same question, phrased differently, can produce a different set of companies.
  • There are no clicks, there's trust. An AI doesn't send traffic the way search does. It delivers a short verdict: "these fit." The customer arrives already convinced, often directly.
  • What wins is being easy to quote. Models extract facts: specific numbers, clear definitions, direct answers. Vague marketing copy doesn't get cited at all.
  • Sources matter more than keywords. What counts isn't keyword density — it's what's written about you in places the model treats as reliable.

Classic SEO doesn't go away — many AI systems lean on search results. We don't replace it, we build on top of it.

What the work involves

Six directions — from audit to monitoring

Visibility audit

We check what AI systems currently say when asked the questions your customers ask: whether you're mentioned, in what context, who gets named instead, and which sources they draw on. That's the baseline everything else is measured against.

Technical foundation

Making your site legible to machines: structured data about the company and services, question-and-answer markup, llms.txt, clean page semantics. This is what an AI reads first.

Content built to be cited

Rewriting key pages so they're easy to quote: unambiguous definitions, concrete numbers, direct answers to the questions customers actually ask — instead of generalities about your "individual approach."

Working the sources

AI doesn't rely on your site alone: directories, profiles, mentions, reviews, industry platforms. We clean up what's written about you elsewhere.

Correcting false mentions

A category of its own: when a model says something untrue about you — outdated pricing, services you don't offer, confusion with another company. We find the source of the error and fix it.

Monitoring and reporting

We regularly check how AI responds to your control questions and show the trend: where mentions appeared, where they haven't yet, and what to do next.

We did this to ourselves first

A method tested on our own site

The site you're reading is built by these rules: structured data on every page, question-and-answer markup, an llms.txt with the facts about the company, and copy written to be quotable rather than to sound impressive.

We're also building our own visibility monitoring as an automation — the same kind we build for clients. We don't sell a method we haven't run on ourselves.

Who needs this now

Five signs — one is enough
  • Customers tell you they found you "through ChatGPT" — or you hear competitors say it
  • You ask an AI about your own category and see everyone except yourself
  • An AI says wrong things about you: wrong services, outdated pricing, confused with another company
  • You invest in SEO but traffic is falling while rankings hold — AI answers took part of it
  • Your category is complex and buyers research before purchasing — those are exactly the people asking AI

FAQ

What people ask before the first call
What is Generative Engine Optimization in plain terms?

It's the work of making AI systems — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews — aware of your business and willing to name it when customers ask. Like SEO, except instead of a position in a list, you're after a mention in the answer.

How is GEO different from SEO?

SEO competes for a place in a list of links; GEO competes for a mention in an answer. Different rules: search rewards links and keywords, AI answers reward quotable facts and what reliable sources say about you. Neither replaces the other — we usually do both.

Can you guarantee an AI will name us first?

No, and nobody honestly can. AI answers vary with phrasing, model and conversation context — there's no stable "position" to hold. We work on what can be influenced: the facts about you, the markup, the sources — and we report on the trend in mentions.

How long until results show?

Systems with live web search — Perplexity, Google AI Overviews — react within weeks. Models answering from training data change more slowly, over months. GEO isn't a sprint: first movement is visible in 1–2 months, a stable picture in 4–6.

What does it cost?

The first 30-minute call is free. A visibility audit starts at $900, implementation at $3,000, ongoing monitoring at $500 a month. Exact numbers come after the audit.

What if an AI is saying false things about us?

It's a common and damaging problem — outdated pricing, invented services, confusion with a similarly named company. There's almost always a traceable source: an old page, a third-party directory, an inaccurate mention. We find it, correct it, and then watch how the answers change.

Does this only matter for tech companies?

No — it matters most where buyers research before they commit. Professional services, B2B suppliers, considered purchases. If your customers spend time deciding, they're increasingly spending it asking an AI.
